The live-action Yu Yu Hakusho series looks like a classic Netflix joint.

Especially in a post One Piece world, there’s always some hope of Netflix’s live-action anime / manga adaptations exceeding everyone’s expectations.

But judging from the looks of the wigs and special effects featured in the new trailer for Robot Communications’ upcoming spin on Yu Yu Hakusho, we might be in for another clunker.

Peely has been kidnapped in the first Fortnite Chapter 5 trailer.

Ahead of The Big Bang event happening at 2PM ET, Epic has released a quick look at the game’s impending Chapter 5. It includes a new island, a train to ride, some revamped movement mechanics, and the ability to heal and move at the same time. Talk about innovation. Oh, and as the leaks suggested, both Peter Griffin and Solid Snake are there. Players now have just a few hours left to enjoy the nostalgia of Fortnite OG.

Godzilla Minus One’s a gorgeous nightmare you can’t wake up from.

We’re all used to seeing Godzilla lay waste to entire cities with a swish of his tail, but one of the most startling things about Godzilla Minus One (and the film’s final trailer) is the way director Takashi Yamazaki manages to perfectly capture and convey the idea of the kaiju king absolutely wrecking people’s minds as well as their surroundings.

Speak softly, then drop a hype-ass trailer.

We knew it was coming. Then Rockstar confirmed it was coming. Now it’s telling us exactly when — Tuesday, December 5th at 9 AM Eastern.

You know, it.

The GTA VI trailer.

Though a short blog post with just an image and the date and time information doesn’t seem like the most exciting of teases, it is in line with Rockstar’s penchant for understated announcement schemes.

Stop-motion sci-fi.

The new trailer for Harold Halibut — an upcoming adventure game from German studio Slow Bros — looks absolutely gorgeous. The handcrafted game has been in the works for around a decade, but it doesn’t look like we’ll have to wait too much longer to explore: it’s expected to launch in early 2024 on the PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X / S (it’ll also be on Xbox Game Pass).

A true gentleman leaves no puzzle unsolved.

For everyone who has missed the puzzle book adventures of Professor Layton and his extremely annoying apprentice Luke, Level-5 just released a gameplay trailer for the upcoming Switch game New World of Steam. It looks like, well, Professor Layton, but with a strong steampunk vibe and updated graphics. Unfortunately it’s not launching until 2025.

Science Saru’s Dandadan adaptation might just make a believer out of you.

Yukinobu Tatsu’s sci-fi / action / romance manga Dandadan tells the story of two teens who are dead certain that ghosts and/or aliens are probably real.

The manga has only been publishing for a couple of years, but Science Saru’s upcoming adaptation looks like it’s going to be pretty damn slick when it drops in 2024.

Meep meep.

While Star Wars continues to feature new aliens engineered in a lab for maximum cuteness, Doctor Who is moving in the opposite direction. Just look at this thing. I very much relate to Donna at the end of the clip below. The Meep, as it’s known, will make an appearance in “The Star Beast,” one of a trio of Doctor Who specials coming over the winter.

*pounds table* Show me the creatures.

This is the second teaser for Netflix’s Gyeongseong Creature, following a release date announcement at Geeked Week earlier in the month. And while the show looks great, I am just itching to see what these creatures actually look like. I guess we’ll find out pretty soon: part one of the series starts streaming on December 22nd.

Some more Sonic.

Sonic Superstars was close to being a really good Sonic game, but the series at least has another chance this year with the upcoming Sonic Dream Team. The Apple Arcade exclusive is launching on December 5th, and it looks like it has some potential — and I’m not just saying that because of this incredible animated intro that Sega just released.

And the award for edgiest video game title in 2023 goes to —

Blade Chimera!

Despite having a name that wouldn’t be out of place in the PSX-era, Blade Chimera looks like a really cool futurepunk Castlevania. In it, you wield your Lumina Blade, a demon transformed into a sword, that can slash enemies and transform into anything from a grappling hook to an escalator to get to those hard to reach places.

Blade Chimera launches on the Switch as a timed exclusive in Spring 2024.

Meet me at Moonstone Island.

Moonstone Island was one of the coziest and cutest games I saw at GDC 2023 and it’s coming to the Switch as a timed exclusive. The game’s a deckbuilder Pokémon-like mixed with all the chill social and simulation elements of Stardew Valley.

Become a world-renowned alchemist with the help of creatures you meet and tame in a procedurally generated world, where you can grow plants for your potions, decorate your home, and fall in love. No firm release date yet, but expect Moonstone Island to launch on the Switch in spring 2024.

Let’s do the time warp again.

Your favorite game journalist’s favorite game about space is finally heading to the Switch. Outer Wilds: Archaeologist Edition will let you solve the riddle of cosmic recurrence through clever puzzles strewn throughout an always-changing environment.

The Archaeologist Edition will feature the Outer Wilds base game and its expansion Echoes of the Eye. If you’re so inclined, grab a pre-order, they’re available now, or wait until the game launches officially on December 7th.

The Risky Revolution will not be televised.

Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution is coming soon to the Nintendo Switch. Originally, this game was meant to be a sequel to the first Shante game launched on the GameBoy Color in 2002, but was cancelled before completion.

WayForward Games, developers of the Shante series, always wanted to finish the game and held onto that idea for 22 years until now. Risky Revolution will bring a long lost game to life with new features including 4-player battle mode.

A new creature feature.

Gyeongseong Creature is the latest in a growing list of Korean series on Netflix, and it looks like a fascinating bit of monster mayhem up against the backdrop of real-world history. The first teaser doesn’t show much of the actual creatures, but we’ll find out more when the show starts streaming on December 22nd.

The message is clear in Leave the World Behind’s new teaser clip.

The scale and gravity of the imminent danger everyone is in isn’t clear to humans in Netflix’s upcoming feature length adaptation of Rumaan Alam’s novel Leave the World Behind.

But in a new clip from the film, every single forest animal living in the northeast coast seems to know what the deal is, and that they need to get the hell out of dodge before whatever the danger is gets them.

Masters of the Universe: Revolution’s teaser is a reminder to not skip leg day.

Netflix’s Masters of the Universe: Revolution series from Kevin Smith will see Eternia fall after Skeletor (Mark Hamill) wins in an epic battle with He-Man (Chris Wood) that damages the very fabric of reality.

But while the sword-bearing hero might be on the ropes, the show’s new teaser trailer definitely makes it seem like he might end up crushing his nemesis with those massive tree trunks Powerhouse worked to hard to animate.

The Archies looks like a good ol’ fashioned, wholesome time.

Netflix’s upcoming musical The Archies from director Zoya Akhtar might be based on the same source material as the CW’s Riverdale, but the film’s latest trailer is yet another reminder that these takes on Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead are going to be bringing a completely different kind of energy to the small screen.

Smells like teen spirit.

The upcoming sequel to Pixar’s Inside Out explores the scariest thing of all: teenage emotions. You can get a taste of that in the new teaser trailer, which introduces a new character named Anxiety, played by Maya Hawke. Inside Out 2 hits theaters in June 2024.
